Padmini Rout Wins Three Games In A Row
Woman Grand Master Padmini Rout of Odisha made it three wins in a row when she beat Swati Ghate of Pune with the black pieces in the National Premier Women’s Chess Championship that is taking place at Sangli, Maharashtra on October 30, 2014.
Padmini Rout leads with five points from six rounds and is closely followed by Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa with 4.5 points. Top seed Mary Ann Gomes, Vijayalakshmi and Nisha Mohota are sharing the third position with four points. Five rounds remain to be played.
Padmini won a long 75-move game with her knight and three pawns against bishop and two pawns of Swati Ghate. Mary Ann Gomes and Vijayalakshmi split the points after 44 moves when they had an opposite coloured bishops and five pawns each.
The win to draw ratio is close to 2:1 which is good for an all-play-all with 12 players. The unusual ratio here is the white wins to black wins ratio which is 11 to 12.
