Anand gains four Elo In March 2013 Rating List

World champion Viswanathan Anand was the lone active player among the world’s elite in February as he added four Elo by winning the Baden-Baden Tournament in Germany to reach 2784.

India has 31 GMs, 77 IMs, and overall 222 titled players in the March 2013 rating list.

The top 10 players from India have lost some rating and our average is now slipped to ninth in the world. Howeber, our women are ranked fifth in the world. Just to remind that our women finished fourth in the Istanbul Olympiad of 2012.

On the Asian front, we have caught up with China in the number of grandmasters at 31 apiece. We are way ahead on the titled players count with 222 vs 125 of China.
