India Smash Kyrgyzstan 4-0
By Arvind Aaron

India held higher seed Russia to a 2-2 draw in the morning and came back in the afternoon to smash Kyrgyzstan 4-0 in the World Youth Chess Olympiad in Mongolia on Saturday.

In the morning, aided by Vaishali’s upset win in the second board, India drew Russia. Grand Master Aravindh had won on top board.

Titled Russians, both higher rated beat Sai Viswesh and Parab Ritviz in the bottom boards.  In the afternoon, India replaced Parab with Al Muthaiah and swept 4-0.

Hungary beat top seed Iran to lead with eight match points. India and Russia are in the second-third place with seven match points.

Six rounds remain to be played. Mongolia is organising a big event of this magnitude for the first time. India are defending champions and Aravindh’s change of form after the Korea debacle is welcome.  The Youth Olympiad is for under-16 and players are warm after playing continental championships in Asia and Europe.
