AICF Admin 3 years ago

GM Leon Luke Mendonca played a marathon game on board 1 of open section in order to win against the leader GM Adam Kozak, Adam needed a draw to win the tournament, however Leon who was playing white had other plans. In semi-slav, white got a slight edge, maintaining the pressure till endgame, forced Adam to make a mistake and converted to a full point on move 83.

With 5 players tied for 1st place, Leon unfortunately had a lower tie break and had to be content with the 5th place while IM Gadimbayli Abdulla of Azerbaijan won the event.

IM Manish Anto had a wonderful event gaining 52 elo points while in the girls section Femil Chelladurai gained 95 elo points from the tournament.

The girls section was won by 4th seeded Beydullayeva Govhar from Azerbaijan.

The closing ceremony was held after the final round and top 10 players in both the sections were awarded trophies, while top 3 prize winners got additional medals.
