GM Aravindh Chithambaram Vr. conquers Delhi Open 2023

India’s GM Aravindh Chithambaram Vr.  beat GM Pantsulaia Levan of Georgia in the 10th and final round to win the 20th Delhi Open International Grandmasters Chess Tournament in New Delhi. Starting the final game with half a point lead, the Indian secured a win to seal the top prize with 9.5 points

20th edition of Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament organised by Delhi Chess Association under the aegis of All India Chess Federation and International Chess Federation with support of Government of India Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports had a smooth start at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on 23rd March 2023.

A Total of 1075 players from 18 federation, which includes 19 Grand Masters, 10 International Masters, 9 Fide Masters, 2 Women Fide Masters and 10 candidate Masters took part in 29th Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2023. Out of 1075 players approximately 70 percent players were rated. The tournament witnessed players from the age group of 5 years to 89 years. Total prize fund was Rs 45,00,000

The tournament was conducted in a spacious and well-ventilated playing hall at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Organiser provided players and accompanying persons with unlimited refreshing Coffee and Tea.

Many Grand Masters and International Masters had a challenging time with some of the promising players from India.

Mr A K Sinha, IAS, Mr Sanjay K Chadha, Senior Advocate, Supreme court, Mr Bharat Singh Chauhan, Chairman FIDE advisory board and chairman commonwealth chess federation. Dr Vipnesh Bharadwaj, Interim Secretary, AICF and Mr A K Verma, organising secretary Distributed the prizes to the winners.

The Chief Arbiter IA Vasanth B.H was ably assisted by Deputy Chief IA Govindan Kutty and many other qualified Sector Arbiters.
