Aakanksha Hagawane of Maharashtra beat Riya Savant of Goa in a quick brevity to share the lead along with Tamil Nadu’s K Priyanka. Both have six and a half points from eight rounds. Three rounds remain to be played in this National Under-13 Chess Championship that is organised by the Pondicherry State Chess Association at Puducherry on July 5, 2013.
The Open section is yet to see a single sole leader so far. In this section, S Dhananjay of Chhatisgarh played a sharp rook sacrifice and lived dangerously before defeating Tamil Nadu’s Jayakumar. Dhananjay leads along with top seed Abhimanyu Puranik, Asian Under-12 champion K.S. Raghunanandan, Barat Kalyan and Harsha Bharathakoti with 6.5 points. This section is heading for a photo finish. The top finishers will represent India in the World Under-14 Championships of 2014.
