National Open Senior Chess Championship 2018

GM Aravindh Chidhambaram emerged as a sole leader at the end of 4th round of National Senior Open Chess championship, organized by All J&K Chess Association on behalf of All India Chess Federation, at Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust— Jammu.
Aravindh playing with black pieces against English opening by IM Karthikeyan of RSPB, took the pawn majority on the queenside and exchanged all the pieces resulting in a winning king and pawn endgame in 42 moves.

On the second spot, thirteen players are with 3.5 points. The other overnight leader GM Deep Sen Gupta of PSPB could not convert his slight advantage in the opening against Ritviz Parab of Goa ended up in a draw.

Top seeded GM Abhijeet Gupta’s powerful seventh rank rooks ensured him a victory against IM VAV Rajesh of Tamil Nadu on board 3.

Fifty-nine-year-old GM Pravin thipsay sacrificed an exchange in order to open up the kingside against GM Karthikeyan Murali, where he missed out the equal position and gave back the exchange resulting in weakening the king’s position. Soon Thipsay converted into advantage with two pawns up and won the game in 33 moves.

GM Karthik Venkataraman overlooked a piece sacrifice on 27th move by IM Rathnakaran, who completely destroyed karthik’s kingside which forced him to resign in 34 moves.

An another overwhelming result by IM Konguvel Ponnuswamy beat GM Tejas Bakre of Air India, earlier he won against GM M R Venkatesh of PSPB.
