Day two of the 1st Chola Chess Grandmasters Closed Circuit Chess Tournament, Chennai now in progress in Chola Chess, T.Nagar, Chennai was a result oriented day with three boards ending in a win and two boards ending in a draw.
In a clash between two Indians Audi Ameya gained space advantage by tactful of maneuvering Queen and Knight on white side. But he slipped in the middle by over looking a simple combination by black on the 48th move. Ethen surprised Ameya by a tactical blow on g3 by his knight and this proved fatal for Ameya. He was fighting a losing battle without his Queen and resigned the game in vain.
Adopting the Alpin’s variation against black’s sicilian defense IM Mayan Chakravarthy mishandled the opening to allow a double pawn structure on the f file. This was sufficient for the French GM Suleymenov, Alisher to grab an unsupported rook pawn with his knight. With this extra pawn Alisher played a consistent game to reach an absolutely won ending. Finally he scored a full point on his 76th move.
Aronyak Ghosh who is in the hot pursuit of his final GM norm rather chose a Fianchetto variation against black’s king Indian defense. GM Boyer Mahel misplaced a pawn on the 6th rank of his e file and this was cleverly exploited by a forced pin to capture the centre pawn on the 32nd move . In the ensuing Rook and minor piece piece end game Aronyak improved his side inch by inch to net a winner over the visiting Grandmaster.
In yet another wrangle between two Indian IMs Harsh, Suresh and Borgaonkar Akshay the former chose Breyer Borisenko variation in the popular Ruy Lopez opening. Both youngsters preferred careful moves to reach a equality and signed peace treatyafter completing 30moves, the requisite number of moves as per the tournament regulation.
In an English Opening GM Girel Joseph obtained a plus position by taking control of c file as well as a weak isolated d pawn for hi opponent. However his counterpart Delgedo Neuris saddled his Queen and Rook to trade Queens. Since there was no major break through in the game the players agreed for a draw
