FIDE Arbiter Seminar at Thrissur

A FIDE Arbiter seminar was organised by All India Chess Federation and FIDE Arbiters’ Commission at Kovilakam Residency, Thrissur, Kerala from 28th to 30th December 2018 with the support of Government of India Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

In a brief opening ceremony Mr. TJ Suresh Kumar, Coach of Indian Youth team inaugurated the seminar.

Thirty Three participants from Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and host Kerala participated in the three-day event conducted under HRDS Scheme of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. International Arbiter and Fide Lecturer, Gopakumar M S was the chief lecturer and International Arbiter Vasanth BH assisted him in the lectures.

IA Gopakumar and IA Vasanth lectured on topics like Laws of Chess, Rating regulations, Title regulations, Arbiter regulations, Competition rules, Tiebreaks, Pairing regulations, Anti-cheating regulations etc. The participants were very enthusiastic and inquisitive with lot of inputs. Many of them cleared their doubts they had in their mind about many regulations and focus was mainly on Laws of Chess. Several case studies and practical examples were also discussed during the seminar.

On the third day, the participants attended the examination. The results of the examination will be declared by FIDE Arbiters Commission in two weeks’ time. In the closing ceremony Shri. R Rajesh, Secretary Chess Association Kerala, Shri. Sasidharan, Secretary Chess Association Thrissur & Director of Kovilakam Residency, Shri. TJ Suresh Kumar, Coach Indian Youth Team and Dr. MS Govindankutty, Secretary Chess Association of Palakkad wished the participants for successfully passing the examination.
