FIDE World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad:Report Round 4 & 5

AICF Admin 2 years ago

India held higher seed Romania in the fifth round in the ongoing World Youth Chess Olympiad held at World’s smartest square High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, Netherlands. In evening session on board five Indian team scored well with white pieces. Aswath, our highest rated played displayed excellent opening preparation against Sicillian Najdorf on board one and won comfortably after sacrificing a bishop on g7. Harsh Suresh’s higher rated opponent from Romania could have opted to go for draw by perpetual check but went for complication which resulted in  Harsh’s win after a good technical finish. Morning session conqueror of Indian team Arjun and Tejaswini could not handle the transition phase after the opening and both lost the games with black pieces finally drawing the match between India and Romania.

Indian Team marched ahead with a win in the fourth round in the morning session in World Youth Chess Olympiad.

Indian team comprised of three boys and one girl won against 30th seed England team by the margin 3.5 – 0.5 on the Independence Day today. Aswath playing white on board no 1 against Hobson Kenneth sacrificed an exchange after the opening phase and took advantage of opponent’s king in the center to wrap the game early. Harsh Suresh after recently winning a rapid tournament in India struggled today after the opening but survived in the end with the help of opponent who went for repetitions of moves instead of trying with two bishop’s advantage. Once again Arjun’s escape from theoretically draw rook endgame and Tejaswni’s win against Rida Ruqayyah from England helped India to score with good margin in the fourth round.
