The 1st Thailand Chess Festival is a group of tournaments with the main event being Thailand Open Grand Master Chess Tournament. This event took place from 09/07/2019 to 16/07/2019 in Pattaya, Thailand.
There were 33 Titled players including 6 GMs, 10 IMs and 1 WIM from 19 countries, in a total participation of 67 players. Iniyan started the tournament as the second seed. He had to navigate through treacherous seas in the early middle of the tournament when he lost two consecutive games.
Undeterred he won the next 5 games in which notably he won against Indian GM Karthikeyan P. Before the start of the final game the leading places were 1. Dimakiling Oliver (PHI) 7 points, 2. Tsydypov Zhamsaran (RUS) 6.5 points 3. Iniyan (IND) 6 points. In the final game, Iniyan faced the leader IM Dimakiling Oliver with the black pieces and won the game in a must-win situation.
