Mega Category” Event In Zurich From Today
By Arvind aaron
The chess world gets ready for the strongest chess tournament ever. It is category 23 and it will be held in Zurich. Gone are days when category 16 and higher was slated as super category. The new 23 category should thus classify as a new “mega category” event.
When the average rating of the players is above 2800, spectators at the Savoy would get their due for sure. Each game would be fought hard, be it blitz or classical or rapid. All three formats will be seen in the show organised by the 204-year old Zurich Chess Club.
The Zurich Chess Challenge will see three sets of all-play-all, first blitz to determine the draw of lots for classical. Then classical will be followed by the rapid.
The event runs from Jan 29 to Feb 4, 2014. There will be great fighting as the names of the players include Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand.
The names of the players: Viswanathan Anand (Ind), Magnus Carlsen (Nor), Levon Aronian (Arm), Fabiano Caruana (Ita), Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and Boris Gelfand (Isr).
