Round 9 report- World Youth Olympaid 2023

AICF Admin 2 years ago

Indian Team finished on 15th Position in World Youth Chess Olympiad.

Indian team drew their last round against 5th seed Hungary and finished on 15th Position in the World Youth Chess Olympiad concluded today in Eindhoven, Netherland. India scored total 11 match points with 4 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. Win in the last wound would have placed them in 11th Position.

China had a thumping victory with 17 match points and Individual Gold medals on all the boards except board no-1. Turkey with two IMs in the team won Silver Medal and Greece won last three rounds to claim Bronze Medal in World Youth Chess Olympiad.

India’s first board Aswath was the best scorer in the team by winning 6.5 points out of 9 rounds but it was not sufficient for Individual Medal. Harsh missed winning continuation in the last round to score half point. Tejaswani had blundered a piece in the middlegame which her opponent gave back immediately on the next move and she won the game thereafter convincingly. Arjun lost the game on 2nd board against Palczert Matyas of Hungary in an equal endgame and India could draw the overall match. Overall this 45 min time schedule for youth Olympiad was difficult to cope up for many teams as it was neither full time control nor rapid game.
