The game one between Vidit Gujrathi and GM Durarbayli of Azerbaijan in the pre-quarterfinal of FIDE World Cup 2021 was a tense encounter which ended in a draw. Vidit had the White pieces and the game started out as a Slav Defense. Vidit didn’t seem to get much out of the opening with the White pieces and the game set out towards a very complicated direction. Vidit had an opportunity at one point to get a winning position, but the opportunity was mutually missed. Gradually the position got worse for Vidit and he had to solve some difficult problems. He managed to resourcefully solve all of them and managed to successfully make a draw
