34th National Under-17 OPEN & GIRLS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024 :Final Report

(AICF Event Codes: 369716/CHD/2024 & 369717/CHD/2024) Organised by CHANDIGARH CHESS ASSOCIATION

The 34th National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Championship, event codes 369716/369717, was organized by the Chandigarh Chess Association under the aegis of the All India Chess Federation (AICF). The event was held at the Gymnasium Hall, Punjab University, Chandigarh, and saw the participation of 325 players from 22 states. All 11 rounds were conducted smoothly without any protests or complaints.

For the prize distribution ceremony, Hon. Shri. Hari Calicat, IAS Secretary of Sports Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest, accompanied by dignitaries such as Shri. Sanjiv Thakur (Joint Secretary of AICF), Shri. Pankaj Nighlani (Co-sponsor and owner of HiWay Cabs), Dr. Vipnesh Bharadwaj, Shri. Vipan Negi, other CCA officials, and Chief Arbiter IA Rajendra Shidore.

On July 20th, all players participated in a FIDE initiative attempting to set a record for the most games played in a day, in honor of International Chess Day. This tournament contributed 162 games to the Guinness World Record. In the Open section, Shriram Uppalla of Telangana won the championship, with Arpith Bijoy of Kerala and Jaiveer Mahendru of Maharashtra as the first and second runners-up, respectively. In the Girls section, WIM Tejaswini G. of Tamil Nadu won the championship, with Kirthika of Telangana and Anupam Sreekumar of Kerala as the first and second runners-up, respectively.
