India’s big rise in chess has certainly changed the world order. Besides having the world champion Viswanathan Anand, India had reached many a milestone. The latest being the No.1 in terms of number of FIDE rated players. India overtook France in the dramatic last week of October 2013 and the numbers look like this on November 1, 2013:

1. India 35223
2. France 35215
3. Spain 31830
4. Russia 28099
5. Germany 27201
