AICF WGM Hyderabad R.d.6: Guliskhan extends lead by 1.5 points

Round 6 of the AICF International Women Grandmaster Chess Tournament, being organised by Telangana State Chess Associaton held at Hyderabad, witnessed good results for Indians. WIMs Aakanksha Hagawane, Chitlange Sakshi, and Monnisha G K won their games against higher-rated foreign counterparts. Whereas, WGM Nakhbayeva Guliskhan of Kazakhstan extended her lead by scoring 5.5/6 points.

After an unexpected loss to WGM Babiy Olga in the 5th round, Akshaksha regained her foothold in the tournament by defeating higher rated WGM Vo Thi Kim Phung. She took home a full point after carrying out successful attack on Black’s kingside.

Ukraine’s Prudnykova Olga employed Semi-Benoni defence but couldn’t withstand Sakshi’s kingside attack in the opening. Olga resigned on move 26.

Similarly, WIM G.K Monnisha punished Vietnam’s Hoang Thi Bao Tram’s opening mistake. The game ended in just 26 moves.

On board 5, Nandhidhaa PV drew with Mahalakshmi M. Game ended in a threefold repetition.

WIM Prathyusha Bodda lost to WGM Nakhbayeva Guliskhan in 43 moves. With this win, Guliskhan extended her lead by 1.5 points.

The tournament is an initiative of the All India Chess Federation to provide norm opportunities to the promising Indian players by inviting 6 elite WGMs from across the world and have provided the entire prize fund of 7.5 Lakhs.
