Round:4 – Asian Junior & Girls Chess Championship 2024 at Philippines- Disappointing performance for Indians at Both Top Tables.

In Girls Section:

 Sneha Halder of India who was in Joint lead along with WIM Sukhman Anna lost in the 4th round n Asian Junior & Girls Chess Championship 2024 at Tagaytay, Philippines.

While in a very crucial battle at Open Section, Indian Rohith Krishna faced GM Aleksey. He was also unable to stop the Grandmaster Winning Spree.

On Top Table in Girls Section, Sneha Halder faced WIM Sukhman Anna with Black pieces. She opted Petroff Defence. Positional aspects of the play required after finishing the Opening. But Black faltered later on and hand over the initiative to White. Black’s isolated pawn and the weak harmony between Black’s forces allows White to gain command in the position. White successfully succeed in later part of the position.

On 2nd Table, WIM G. Tejaswini (2) Vs. Hoang Tu Linh Luong (2)- It started with Nimzo Indian Defence. The position was heading with equal manner when Black blundered and White’s Bishop got activated and later on, she converted the position into win.

On 3rd table Rindhya(2) played black side of the Reti opening against  WIM Sultanbek Zeinep ( KAZ). White had initiative after  the opening but she couldn’t convert into winning position.The game ended in draw.

On 4th table Dhanashree Khairmode (2) played white side of the Ruy Lopez  against WFM Kristina Popandopulo (2).After the opening with few inaccuracies from white, Black had upper hand but couldn’t convert into win.Instead black went for the endgame which favoured  white with passed pawn and eventually  white won.

On 5th table Ainul Mardriah (2) with White  defeated  Shubhi Gupta(2) in English Neo-Catalan defence opening .

On 7thTable, Rubin Apple (1) of Philippines Vs. WFM Bristy Mukherjee (1.5). Black made mistake in the Opening and throughout the game, White had the clear advantage. Based on exchanging the queen, Black got some chances to comeback in the game and later on she was able to hold and the game ended in a draw.

In Open Section:

On top Table, battle between GM Aleksey Grebnev (3) Vs. IM Rohith Krishna (2.5) continued the opening with Italian System. White had a slight advantage in the middle game and due to a mistake of Black, his position weakened further and slowly His opponent converted it into a nice victory.

On 4th Round, an interesting Clash between IM S Aswath (2) Vs. Manish Anto Cristiano F (2) Indian Counter-parts. White played the Catalan opening and queens got exchanged on the 14th move reaching an equal endgame. White got an edge in the endgame due to it being theoretically known. The advantage was reduced later in the endgame. But a final tactic by White let him win the game.

On 7th Table, another battle between Indian FM Adireddy Arjun (2) Vs. David Sean Romualdez (2) of Philippine. The opening was Accelerated Dragon, White got a slight advantage from the opening, and his opponent start making mistakes by which he was able to convert the advantage into a win.
