Anand Is No.2 Ranked In Elo List
By Arvind aaron

The May 1, 2015 FIDE rating list has been published. Five-time former world chess champion Viswanathan Anand has moved back into the 2800 rating club. He is also No.2 ranked now behind Magnus Carlsen of Norway.

Good performances in the Zurich Classical and the Vugar Gashimov Memorial this year has lifted Anand to his close to his all-time high rating. He had been 2817 in 2011.

There are eight Chinese, three Indians, two from Vietnam and one Uzbek in the World Top 100. There are no Russians in the World Top 5. Wesley So, formerly from the Philippines has moved to seventh place and represents USA.

India leads Russia and the rest of the world in the number of players (rated and non-rated) in the FIDE rating file. India has 48004, Russia 45542, so on. This is the primary indicator of activity in a given chess nation.
