 Commonwealth Chess Championship 2024

                                             Round 1

The Commonwealth Chess Championship 2024 was inaugurated on 20th February 2024 at the Melaka International Trade Center, Convention Centre in the historical city of Melaka, Malaysia.

The Indian contingent is well-represented with 55 players participating in this prestigious tournament and most of them started with victories in the 1st round.

Open Section

GM S. P Sethuraman leads the Indian challenge in the Open section as the top seed. The first round went smoothly for most seeded players, except for GM N.R Visakh and GM R.R Laxman, who were held to draws by their lower-rated opponents.

                    
 GM Laxman was held to a draw by Kumaran Ashwiniy    Experienced GM Deepan is always      a force to reckon with.

Under 18 Open

IM S Aswath, the top seed of the tournament, is the overwhelming favorite for the gold medal and has started the tournament with a win.

Under 18 Girls

S.Kanishka, the top seed in the Under 18 Girls section, has also started the tournament on a positive note by comfortably winning her 1st round game.

Under 16 Open and Girls

Daevik Wadhwan leads the Indian challenge in the Under 16 Open section, while Sneha Halder spearheads the girl’s section. Both top seeds have registered comfortable wins in the 1st round.

Under 14 Open and Girls

The top 3 seeds in the Under 14 Open section are Indians, and they have all started their campaign with wins. In the girl’s section, favorites Prishita Gupta and Saprya Ghosh have also registered comfortable wins on the top 2 boards.

Under 12 Open and Girls

Ayaan Garg, the top seed in the Under 12 Open section, has won his 1st round without any difficulties. In the girl’s section, top seed Pratitee Bordoloi has also started her campaign with a win.

Under 10 Open and Girls

Muhammad Shayan Noushad Ibrahim, Aarit Kapil, and Rahul Ramakrishnan have all won their 1st round matches. A.S Sharvannica, the top seed in this section, has also won her 1st round.

Under 8 Open and Girls

Mani Sarbharto and Hriday Garg have registered comfortable wins in the 1st round. The Girls section will be a round-robin tournament consisting of 7 rounds. Barring the Girls Under 8 category rest of the events will have 9 rounds.Tommorow there will be double rounds with round starting at 9 am in the morning and the afternoon round will start at 3pm.
