Dev Shah and Savitha Shri clinch titles in National Under-11 Championship

Maharastra’s Dev Shah and  Tamil Nadu’s  Savitha Shri have clinched the open and girls’ category respectively at the end of the eleventh and final round of the 32nd National under-11 chess championship. The event was held at Chettinad Public School, Managiri, Karaikudi, Tamilnadu from 28th July to 5th August 2018. A total of 243 players participated in the Open category and 159 players participated in the Girls section.

Dev Shah

Shahil Dey of Assam scored 9 points along with Dev Shah, Mahendra Teja Mekala of Andhra Pradesh and A. R Illamparthi of Tamilnadu. However, based on tie-break Dev Shah clinched the championship after the final round draw against Shahi Dey.

B. Savitha Shri

In the girls’ category, B. Savitha Shri and R. Tejaswi both from Tamil Nadu were tied at 9.5 points but a better tie-break score helped the former emerge champion. While Sinthia Sarkar of West Bengal settled for third place.

With this performance, the top three finishers of both categories booked their place in the Indian team for the Asian and World Under 12 chess championship 2019.
