Eight Indians are members of FIDE commissions from 2022-26

FIDE functions on the basis of its different commissions. For the rules related to arbiters, we have the arbiters commission, for the rules related to norms and titles we have the qualification commission, for the matter related to Fair Play we have Fair Play Commission, for the rules related to trainer titles we have the trainers commission and so on. Out of the 19 different commissions that FIDE has, we have eight Indians in them after the FIDE Council in Jerusalem approved the composition of the Commission for the tenure 2022-26.

For his contribution as a member of the Fair Play Commission in last four years, International Arbiter Mr. Gopakumar Sudhakaran elevated as a Councilor in Fair Play Commission while FIDE commissions retained the services of Senior International Arbiter Mr. Rathinam Anantharam as Member in Arbiters’ Commission, International Master Vishal Sareen as Member in Trainers’ Commission and Mr. Charudutta Jadhav as Member in Disabled Commission.

Meanwhile, Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte, Mr. Ajeet Kumar Verma, Mr. Dharmendra Kumar and Mr. Arasu B are the new faces from India in Chess in Education Commission, Events Commission, Qualification Commission and Technical Commission respectively.

Earlier in the Chennai FIDE Congress, legendary Grandmaster Visawanathan Anand was elected as Deputy President of FIDE while Mr. Bharat Singh Chauhan has been nominated as first Chairman of the FIDE Advisory Board by FIDE President Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich.

In the FIDE Council Meeting at Jerusalem Mr. Chauhan handed over the First Cover of the Commemorative Postal Stamp of 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad to the FIDE President.
