The final and ninth round of the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 was played today at the Corus KLCC Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. India concluded the classical segment of the championship on a historic high, securing a total of 30 medals, the highest medal tally among all participating nations. The final day witnessed composed and confident performances across categories, reflecting the team’s consistent effort throughout the championship.
In the Open category, India finished strongly with FM Adireddy Arjun winning the silver medal and GM Lalith Babu M R securing the bronze, after stable and resilient tournament runs. In the Women’s division of the Open category, India achieved a remarkable sweep of all three medals. WGM Srija Seshadri clinched the gold medal, WGM Mary Ann Gomes won the silver, and IM Nisha Mohota secured the bronze, highlighting India’s depth and dominance in the women’s field. In the Veteran section, IM Sahu Sekhar Chandra won the bronze medal, consolidating his lead among senior participants with impressive consistency across the event. In the U-20 Girls section, Mrittika Mallick earned the silver medal with a determined and fighting performance throughout the event.
India also secured multiple medals across the age-group categories, with several gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded to Indian players. Gold medals were won by Anaya Sharma (U-8 G), Vanshika Rawat (U-10 G), Divi Bijesh (U-12 G), Aditri Shome (U-14 G), Prishita Gupta (U-16 G), Siya Sagar (U-18 G), Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (U-12 Open), Adhiraj Mitra (U-14 Open), Akshay Borgaonkar (U-16 Open), and Sriram Adarsh Uppala (U-18 Open). Silver medals went to Anvi Deepak (U-8 G), Prayank Gaonkar (U-8 Open), Ananya Raman (U-14 G), Anupam M Sreekumar (U-18 G), Parv H Hakani (U-10 Open), B Devarsh M (U-18 Open), and FM Adireddy Arjun (Open). Bronze medals were claimed by Teesha Byadwal (U-8 G), Kiyanna Parihaar (U-10 G), Saranya Devi N (U-14 G), Aswinika Mani (U-16 G), Nidhish Shyamal (U-10 Open), Reyan Md (U-14 Open), Velavaa Ragavesh (U-16 Open), and GM Lalith Babu M R (Open).
The Commonwealth Blitz Chess Championship was conducted after lunch hours, featuring two categories: U-18 Open and Open. India continued its strong performance in the blitz event, winning numerous medals across age groups and categories. In the age-group section, Prishita Gupta (U-14 Girls) won the gold, with Saranya Devi N securing silver, while Ananya Raman (U-16 Girls) claimed the bronze. In the U-18 Girls category, Siya Sagar clinched the gold medal. Among the open age groups, Borkhetariya Devarsh M (U-18 Open) won gold, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (overall U-18 Open) secured gold, and Akshay Borgaonkar (overall U-18 Open) earned the bronze. In the younger age categories, Kiyanna Parihaar (U-10 Girls), Parv H Hakani (U-10 Open), and Teesha Byadwal (U-8 Girls) all won gold medals.
In the Open category of the blitz event, Mitraba Guha won the gold, Deep Sengupta secured silver, and Shyaam Nikhil claimed bronze. Special recognitions were also awarded, with IM Sahu Sekhar Chandra being named Best Veteran and Mrittika Mallick honored as Best Woman.
