Former AICF Secretary KNK Is No More

Former AICF Honorary Secretary K.N. Kalyanasundaram (85) passed away in a city hospital on March 28, 2017 at Chennai.

Kalyanasundaran (born April 25, 1932) was a three-time General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and served as Honorary Secretary of the AICF in 1962-63.

He has represented the state in National Championships many times and was placed in the middle of the standings most of the time. He was a great lover of the game who played and and was also an administrator. He was 30th in the 1959 Nationals at Delhi.

Kalyanasundaram won the Tamil Nadu Veteran Chess Championship in 1982, 1990, 1991 and 1996. This event was held only four times!

He came from a chess playing family. His father ‘Rao Sahib’ K.V. Nilkantham (1896-1967) was a Patron of the Madras State Chess Association and also served as the Post Master General of Madras.

The AICF mourns the passing away of Kalyanasundaram and offers condolences to his family members.
