A GM Chess Coaching Camp was successfully conducted in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from 23rd to 27th June 2026, with the support of the All Jharkhand Chess Association, under the aegis of All India Chess Federation at the Sarala Birla Campus.
The camp led by GM Himanshu Sharma , was specially designed for selected rated players and promising junior players with the objective of enhancing their technical skills, theoretical knowledge, calculation ability, and overall tournament performance.
The five-day training programme featured a rigorous schedule comprising interactive lectures, position-based simulations, and practical test-solving sessions. The curriculum focused extensively on middlegame strategy, including the study of pawn structures, space advantage, prophylaxis, and decision-making in complex master-level positions.
Participants also engaged in a variety of tactical and positional exercises under strict time controls to improve calculation accuracy and decision-making speed. The camp further covered endgame fundamentals, including practical major-piece and minor-piece endings, enabling players to strengthen their technical proficiency in critical game situations.
In addition to technical training, the sessions emphasized psychological preparation, helping players develop mental resilience, concentration, and confidence required for competitive chess.
The coaching camp provided an excellent learning environment, allowing the participants to interact, analyse, and improve under expert guidance. Such initiatives play a significant role in nurturing young chess talent and strengthening the competitive standard of chess in Jharkhand.
