Mitrabha Wins Gold

India finished fourth in the World Youth Chess Olympiad that concluded at Slovakia on July 29. Iran won the title winning eight matches and a draw. Russia got the silver and Armenia the bronze. India finished fourth winning five matches, losing and drawing two matches apiece.
Stars of the Indian showing were K S Raghunandan (5½/9) in board one and Mitrabha Guha (7½/9) on the reserve board. Both are gaining rating and P Iniyan (3½/8), R Vaishali (3/6), Nitish Belurkar (2½/4) played below rating expectations.
Mitrabha remained undefeated and won a gold medal for the best showing on board five. For missing a team medal, this Kolkata boy brought some cheer to many time champions India.
