Report of 4th round of World Youth Chess Championship 2024 in Brazil

AICF Admin 1 year ago

Team India has celebrated Diwali with commendable scoring in the 4th round of ongoing World Youth Chess Championship in Brazil to be held from 29th Oct to 10th Nov 2024.

In the Boys, Harsh Suresh drew in under 18 section to remain in pursuit of the medal. His opponent from England opted for Catalan system which soon converted into Stonewall structure and with exchange of pieces at regular intervals, the game soon ended in draw.

In under 16 section Jian displayed good positional understanding from black side playing against Klaska Philipp of Germany and won the game after 47 moves.

Another player Samyak Dharwa was lucky enough to escape against Swedish player Religa Marek with two pawns down in Rook Ending. Samyak gave tough resistance and his opponent agreed to draw after trying till 73 moves which looks like technically winning position but difficult to play will clock ticking beside the board.

Ajay Parvathareddy and Viresh Sharnathi won their respective games and Daksh Goyal lost to Vietnamese player.

In the girls section, Mrutticka Mallick and Shreya won their games to be in race. Playing black side of the Caro Kann Defence Mrutticka maturely handled a slightly inferior position out of the opening and her opponent allowed the penetration on the e file which lead to defeat eventually. Most youngest girl in the Indian team Shanmathi Sree lost to 2nd seed Chinese Girl Zhao Yunging after missing a tactical sequence in Sicillan Najdorf variation. She is now on 2.5 points out of 4 rounds. Rajanya Dutta won a quick game in under 18 girls section recovering well after the loss.
