The Velammal MHS Mogappair school wins the inaugural World School Team Chess Championship 2023 Under-12, at Aktau, Kazakhstan with round to spare. They won their first 7 rounds out of 8 to score 14 match points staying 3 match points ahead to their nearest rivel Lviv Academic Gymnasium school of Ukraine in final standing. The team consist of Pooja Shree R 1279, Shanmathi, Sree S 1511, Mithun, Pranav 1234, Aarav A 1607 and Tanishq Raghvan S 1453 with a captain Velavan Subbiah and Under-18 team captain Aravind Shastri. Aarav A performed exceptionally well by scoring 7 points out of 7 rounds on board 4, while Tanish Raghavan scored 6.5 out of 7 on board 5, Pooja Shree R scored 3 and Shanmathi Sree scored 5 points on 1st and 2nd board respectively. The 8th round of championship starts at 1430 hrs local time and the closing ceremony scheduled at 2000 hrs.
