1st NATIONAL SCHOOLS TEAM UNDER-12 & UNDER-18 CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS – 2023

1st NATIONAL SCHOOLS TEAM UNDER-12 & UNDER-18 CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS – 2023 was held at  Amalorpavam Higher Sec. School Arumai Primary Building Vanarapet Pondicherry . This was the inaugural edition of this championship and organized by Pondicherry  Chess Association on behalf of All India Chess Federation .

Shri. K. LAKSHMINARAYANAN , Hon’ble PWD Minister , Govt. of Puduchhery has inaugurated the Championship in gracious presence of Annibel Kenendy , MLA , Uppalam Constituency ,Shri S. A. Lourduswamy , founder of Amalorpavam Higher Sec. School , Shri G. Sankar , President of Pondicherry State Chess Association , Shri Dharmendra Kumar , Chief Arbiter , R. Rajendiran , Hon. Secretary , Pondicherry State Chess Association , IA V Ravichnadran  & IA Narendra Shrimali , both the Dy. Chief Arbiter and all other eminent personalities . Inaugural program was conducted by the Principal of the school  Mr. Antonius Britto.

In all , 115 team 56 teams in U-18 while 59 teams were participated in U-12 Event were participated in this championship . VELAMMAL VIDYALAYA , ALAPAKKAM with the average rating of 1779 was the higher seed team in U-18 Category while VELAMMAL MHS , MOGAPPAIR with average rating of 1421 was the higher seed team in U-12 Category . Total 9 round was played In both the category.

In the last round of  U-18 category ,  Velammal Vidyalaya Alapakkam has defeated ‘B’ Team of Aditya Vidyashram Residential School – Puducherry by 3-1 on first board and won the Championship with incredible 100 % score i.e. 18 Match point in 9 Games ! On board no. 2 , Velammal MHS Mogappair has also won their match against Velammal Vidyalaya Melayanambakkam and with clear 16/18 match point , they clinched the runner up trophy . 2nd runner up trophy went to Silicon City-Team A who scored 14/18 point  

In U-12 category , Velammal MHS Mogappair scored 18/18 and clinched the winner trophy after defeating DAV School – Mogappair . 1st Runner up position went to DPS – EAST with 15/18 point while PPSNC PUNE finished 3rd with 13/18 match point.

Shri. V. VAITHILINGAM , Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha was Chief guest of the function  has gave away the prizes to all the  winners .   Shri S. A. Lourduswamy , founder of Amalorpavam Higher Sec. School , Shri G. Sankar , President of Pondicherry State Chess Association , Shri Dharmendra Kumar , Chief Arbiter , school  Mr. Antonius Britto. , Principal of Amalorpavam Higher Sec. School , R. Rajendiran , Hon. Secretary , Pondicherry State Chess Association , IA V Ravichnadran  & IA Narendra Shrimali , both the Dy. Chief Arbiter were the other eminent personalities present on that occasion .
