56446 Indians In FIDE Rating List

India slipped from the No.1 spot in terms of number of players in the FIDE Elo Rating List. In the July 2016 list, FIDE had 56,446 Indians while Russia jumped ahead to 57,071. India held the No.1 spot for two years and nine months. We went ahead of then No.1 France in the end of 2013 before the Anand v Carlsen match took place at Chennai.

Leading nations with players in the FIDE rating list: Russia 57071, India 56446, France 44421, Spain 39375, Germany 31968.

In the Country Rank, India is ranked fifth in men and fourth in women. The top ten rated Indians average 2669 and we are behind Russia, China, USA and Ukraine. We are ahead of two Olympiad winning nations, namely, Armenia and Hungary.

In the women’s rank, the top ten Indians average 2409 and they are behind Russia, China, Georgia. Again, two Olympiad winning teams of Ukraine and Hungary are behind India.

There are seven Indians led by Anand in the World top 100. There are similarly seven Indians led by Koneru Humpy in the World Women’s Top 100.
