A defeat to Hikaru Nakamura, wins against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Veselin Topalov gave Viswanathan Anand plus one score of 5/9 as he tied for third place and gained six Elo points. The London Chess Classic ended on December 19, 2016.
Wesley So played at a career best 2904 Elo to win the event with 6/9. Fabiano Caruana’s chase for the No.1 position is on and he gained five Elo and climbs from 2823. Carlsen who had retained his title and lost rating looks catchable.
