AICF International Women’s Grandmaster Chess Tournament organized by Telangana State Chess Association got off a great start at the held at NITHM campus, Gachibowli, Hyderabad with a glittering opening ceremony.
The tournament is an initiative of the All India Chess Federation to provide norm opportunities to the promising Indian players by inviting 6 elite WGMs from across the world and have provided the entire prize fund of 7.5 Lakhs.
This 12-player round-robin which kicked off on August 8 will end on August 18, 2018. The event has the following line-up:
IM Munguntuul Batkhuyag of Mongolia, WGM Vo Thi Kim Phung and WGM Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Vietnam, Nakhbayeva Guliskhan of Kazakhstan, WGM Babiy Olga along with WIM Prudnykova Olga from Ukraine are the other overseas contenders for the title.
The Indian challenge is spearheaded by WIM Pratyusha Bodda, who is closely followed by WIM Aakanksha Hagawane, WIM Nandhidhaa Pv, WIM Monnisha G K, WIM Mahalakshmi M and WIM Chitlange Sakshi.
At the end of third round of the AICF International Women Grandmaster chess tournament, Indian WIMs M. Mahalakshmi along with Akanksha Hagawane have amassed 2.0/3 points. Meanwhile, WGM Nakhbayeva Guliskhan of Khazakstan emerged sole leader after defeating former World Junior Girls Silver medalist WIM Nandhidhaa Pv in the third round.

Earlier in the second round, WIM Aakanksha Hagawane stunned Women Grandmaster Thi Bao Tram of Vietnam.
