All India Chess Federation organised a conference at Royal Regency, Chennai on 13th April, for the benefit of chief and deputy chief arbiters of national championships and international tournaments, to be held in 2014 – 15. Mr. DV Sundar, Vice President of FIDE, the World Chess Federation, stressed the need and importance of such conferences every year to refresh and update the knowledge of chess arbiters.
Mr. V. Hariharan, Secretary, All India Chess Federation elaborated the administrative aspects to be followed by chief and deputy chief arbiters before the start, during and after the tournaments. He also told that avoiding spot entries in tournaments will enhance the performance of the tournament and uplift the image of the organisers.
Prof. R. Anantharam, international arbiter and Chairman, Arbiters’ Council, All India Chess Federation handled the technical formalities and requirements to be adopted by the chief, deputy chief and other arbiters. He also elaborated the salient features of the new rules and regulations in chess, to be effective from 1st July of this year.
Mr. CGS Narayanan of All India Chess Federation, who won a gold medal in the 9th World Chess Composition tournament recently, explained the format of sending tournament reports by arbiters. Mr. NK Nandakumar, Section officer, All India Chess Federation briefed the details involved in the registration of players with AICF and uploading their data into AICF website. All the participants enjoyed the sessions, which were very interactive. They praised that the conference was very informative and useful, which cleared most of their doubts they had in mind.
