Iwasa National Women Premier 01: Three players score full point

Report by IA Vijayaraghavan V.

Defending champion IM Padmini Rout of PSPB started her campaign by scoring a win over Bala Kannamma of Tamil Nadu. Looking for her 4th successive National Premier title Padmini won the game in 38 moves. Padmini was able to win a pawn in the 2 bishops ending by 34th move and further loss of pawns forced Bala to throw the towel.

WGM Kiran Manisha of LIC capitalized on pawn movement in 33rd move by Srishti Pandey, to score a point in 39 moves. Seasoned campaigners WGM Mary Ann Gomes of PSPB and WGM Meenakshi Subbaraman signed a truce in 39 moves of a reversed modern game.

National Challenger Champion WGM Bhakti Kulkarni had to accept the repetitive rook checks of Nandhidhaa to draw the game in 44 moves. Veteran of the field WGM Swati Ghate of LIC had a peace treaty with WGM Soumya Swaminathan of PSPB in 31 moves. The Sicilian Rossolimo resulted in Rook & Pawn ending of equal material and offered less chances to continue further.

The last game of the day to finish was the game between youngster WIM Sakshi Chitlange of Maharashtra and Samriddha Ghosh of West Bengal. Sakshi was able to control the queen bishop file and her opponent conceded an exchange in a hurry to complete the 40 moves. Sakshi enhanced her advantage further to win in 56 moves.
