World Teams: India to take on Sweden in the first round

FIDE World Team Championship 2019

The World Team Championships for men and women is taking place from March 4 – 15 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Team India is sponsored by Ramco Systems

The opening ceremony with the drawing of lots was held on March 4 at 7 pm at the Hilton Astana Hotel. Team India drew the #1 card in this 10 Team round robin event.

Team India sponsored by Ramco Systems is represented by GM Adhiban Baskaran (2683), GM Sasikiran Krishnan (2678), GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (2633), GM Sethuraman SP (2637), and GM Aravindh Chidambaram VR (2599) while GM Srinath Narayanan is the non-playing captain.

The Indian women’s team drew #3 card in this 10 Team round robin event. The team comprises IM Eesha Karavade (2357), WGM Soumya Swaminathan (2401), IM Padmini Rout (2332), IM Tania Sachdev (2400)
and WGM Bhakti Kulkarni (2322). GM Swapnil Dhopade (2489) is the captain of the team.
