The fight is intensifying and it has now come down to just 2 rounds in this year’s World Youth Chess Championships being played in Uruguay.
Under 14 Open section the leader is Batsuren Dambasuren of Mangolia on 8 points – almost assured of Gold Medal. Teclef Pawel of Poland and Arjun Erigaisi of India are on joint 2nd spot with 7 points. Also, close on their heels is Koustav Chatterji on 6.5 points. Arjun and Koustav have all the chances for Silver and Bronze Medal.
In Girl’s Under 14 it’s, even more, closer as the leader – Salimova Nurguil of Bulgaria is on 7.5 points, just half point ahead of Jishita who is on 7 points! And Jyotsna is again half point behind Jishita, on 6.5 points.
Open Under 16, there are 3 players at the moment – Esipenko, Gazik and Gumularz all on 7 points. Our challenger – Rajdeep is on 6.5 points and Mitrabha is on 6 points. Rajdeep and Mitrabha are in excellent form and we can keep lots of hopes from both of them.
Under 18 Open Section, the chances are quite dim as there are 2 players in lead on 7 points, 3 players on 6.5 points and 5 players on 6 points. Karthik is one of them and could stand an outside chance by winning his last 2 games.
Girl’s Under 18, our representative Sakshi is on 6 points and on joint 3rd spot – she also has very good chances for a podium finish!
