Top seeded Indian Women cruised past Kyrgyzstan, moving into the semi-finals of the Asian Nations (Regions) Online Cup 2020. In another quarter-finals, Indian Men beat Mongolia, by a narrow 2.5 – 1.5 margin, matching their counterparts. Indian Men face Kazakhstan in the semis, while Indian Women battle it out against Mongolia.
Indian Women swept past Kyrgyzstan (4-0, 3.5 – 0.5) in two back-to-back encounters. Vaishali, Padmini and Nandhidhaa won both the rounds, while Bhakti shed a draw after winning her first game.
For Indian Men GM Krishnan Sasikiran continued to be the solid performer, scoring 1.5/2. In the first quarter-final match against Mongolia, Nihal Sarin went down to FM Amartuvshin, Ganzorig (1980), while Ganguly split the points with GM Bilguun, Sumiya (2468). GMs Sethuraman and Sasikiran won their games giving India a close 2.5-1.5 victory.
In the reverse match-up, the score line for India – Mongolia remained the same at 2.5 – 1.5 as Ganguly lost to GM Batchuluun, Tsegmed (2445). GMs Adhiban and Nihal Sarin restored parity winning their games, while Sasikiran completed the final score holding IM Gan-Erdene, Sugar (2109) to a draw.
Semi-final line up : (Men) India vs Kazakhstan, Iran vs Australia, (Women) India vs Mongolia, Indonesia vs The Philippines. Round starts by 11.30am IST on Saturday, 24th October, 2020.
