Adhiban Wins Wijk Aan Zee
By Arvind Aaron

Baskaran Adhiban played at 2704 to win the Tata Steel Challengers with 9/13 in the Netherlands on Jan 31, 2016. Adhiban picked up Euro 2000 plus trophy and appearance fee. He is accompanied by his father. K Visweswaran is my main trainer since 2007,” said B Adhiban from the Netherlands on February 2, 2016. Visweswaran is also the trainer of Karthikeyan Murali, the teenaged National Premier champion. His victims included joint winner Safarli and the experienced Russian Alexey Dreev.

The venue was the historic beach town of Wijk aan Zee and other cities like Amsterdam which is 45 minutes drive from Wijk. Important, this title would give Adhiban greater recognition and valuable Elo. He would be playing in the Masters group next year. Adhiban, who suffered one defeat to J Van Foreest, won six and drew six games.

Adhiban had been world under-16 champion and one of the young players to win the Indian National Premier. In the Tata Steel Masters, Magnus Carlsen finished on 9/13 to win by a wide one point difference over the rest of the 14-player field. During this winning feat, world champion Carlsen equalled the five title record of the legendary Indian Viswanathan Anand at Wijk aan Zee.
