Sasikiran in Sole lead

Akshat Upsets Lalith Babu

_DSC6749Bhavarlal and Kantabai Jain 51st National Premier  Chess Championship is being held at Jain Hills, Jalgaon from 16th to 30th December 2013.The 14 players 13 rounds   round-robin event  attracts a prize money of Rs.10 lakhs. Top 6 players from this tournament will form Indian team for the year 2014 for international Open events.

On the top board playing with white side GM Sasikiran of ONGC pressed very hard against GM Deepan Chakravarthy in Bogo Indian Defence. Sasikiran with space advantage went into the slightly better endgame, but Deepan defended very well to draw the game after 57 moves. Sasikiran is leading the field with 7 points out of 8 games.

IM akshat Khamparia of railways made a upset of the day by defeating the overnight leader GM Lalith Babu of IOC. In a bogo Indian defence again akshat playing with white played a attacking game in style of Tal, akshat continued with his initiative and sacrificed his Queen for rook and a Piece, Lalith king was in danger and akshat mated lalith with further piece sacrifice. Game lasted for 37 moves, and this game is sure to win the best game prize for round 8.

GM Adhibaan of IOCL played his favourate Sicilian taimanov variation against IM Ashwin jayaram. Ashwin handled the position to very well in the middlegame and won a pawn. Adhibaan kept on attacking with his queen, rook and bishop on Ashwin’s King.  Adhibaan lost another pawn on 51st move and Ashwin won the game after 76 moves.

_DSC6765IM Thekumar and IM Stany both from railways drew the game in reverse Dutch opening. Stany could not get any advantage with white and both players agreed for a draw after 26 moves.

GM Parimarjan Negi of BPCL was held to a draw by IM Shyam Nikhil in French defence. Negi could not get any advantage in the opening and agreed for a draw in equal rook and pawn endings after 31 moves.

IM Debashish das of Orissa won in style against Vishnu prasnna in white side of Nimzo Indian defence. Debashish got a typical isolated pawn position. He sacrificed a pawn for an attack Vishnu blundered with rd8 and debashish won the game after 32 moves.

IM Aakash and IM K Rathnakaran played a fighting draw in French defence in 66 moves.
