Team ONGC-A wins 30th Inter-Unit PSPB Chess Meet

Team ONGC-A on Thursday won the 30th Inter-Unit PSPB Chess Tournament, defeating team MRPL A in the final round. Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) hosted the event at its premises from March 18 to 22. Many of the top ten current India grandmasters namely Harikrishna Pentala, Vidit Gujrathi, Adhiban Baskaran, Sasikiran Krishnan, Sethuraman S P, Surya Shekhar Ganguly, Abhijeet Gupta and Koneru Humpy participated in this tournament.

The all GMs ONGC-A team included Vidit Gujrathi, Sasikiran Krishnan, Koneru Humpy, Deep Sengupta, and S.P Sethuraman.

M Venkatesh, the managing director (MPRL) gave away the prizes to the winners. Speaking on the occasion he said that MRPL is proud to host the tournament. Oil sector plays a very vital role in the energy security of our nation and players add value to this critical oil sector, he said. He hoped that the players have enjoyed the culture, language, and food of Mangaluru.

Team IOCL-A was the 1st runner up and BPCL were the 2nd runner up. Lalith Babu MR, IOCL won the player of the tournament, Abhijeet Gupta of BPCL won the Fair Play Award, Hardik Jha, of MRPL won the Most Promising Player of the Tournament, HPCL-B adjudged the best team in Non-Professional category and Baruah PJ of IOCL declared the Best Player in Non-Professional event.
